Further analysis of the sequence of the S1 subunit of pertussis toxin.
The two published sequences of the pertussis toxin operon differ in 3 bp in the S1 subunit gene. In this report, we provide evidence that Bordetella pertussis strains are able to produce active pertussis toxin only when they contain one of the two possible nucleotide sequences. IMAGES:
