J.M. Coetzee’s Waiting for the Barbarians and Allegory/ies
It has often been claimed that Waiting for the Barbarians is an allegory. Polysemy characterizes the different occurrences of the genre within the narrative, with the result that the novel may be seen as a superimposition of different allegories.
