The title compound, [HgCl(2)(C(14)H(12)N(2))], consists of one 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline (dmphen) ligand chelating the Hg(II) ion and two chloride ligands coordinating to the Hg(II) ion, forming a distorted tetra­hedral environment.
