Phleomycin is an effective inhibitor of the replication of Bacillus subtilis bacteriophage PBS2, whose DNA contains uracil instead of thymine. Phleomycin does not affect the induction of the known phage enzymes involved in deoxyribonucleotide metabolism. But phage DNA synthesis is severely inhibited...
