Production of an Antibiotic by an Organism from Human Feces

An antibiotic-producing, gram-positive, rod-shaped bacterium was isolated from an individual who often lacked coliforms and fungi in fecal samples. The cell-free antibiotic is 1,200 daltons and Pronase sensitive and was shown to have activity against some coliforms and yeast.
