Transformation of Human Erythrocyte Shape by Endotoxic Lipopolysaccharide

Human erythrocytes were observed to undergo a discocyte to echinocyte to spheroechinocyte shape transformation during brief incubation with endotoxic lipopolysaccharide. It was concluded that lipopolysaccharide-membrane interactions alter the curvature of erythrocyte membranes. IMAGES:
