The title compound, C(4)H(5)N(3)O(2), features an essentially planar molecule (r.m.s. deviation for all non-H atoms = 0.013 Å). The crystal structure is stabilized by intermolecular N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds and π–π stacking interactions (centroid–centroid distance 3.882 Å).
