Surface Structure of Azotobacter vinelandii Cysts as Revealed by Freeze-Cleaving

Micrographs of freeze-cleaved Azotobacter vinelandii cysts reveal that the surface is composed of several overlapping layers. This observation is consistent with the previously proposed structure of the outer cyst coat. IMAGES:
