Supracostal incision for access to the upper abdomen.
A supracostal staggered incision in the form of an inverted U gives excellent exposure to the upper abdominal organs. It has been used in 915 operations and has been followed by partial wound dehiscence in only 3 patients. Postoperative discomfort is reduced in comparison with vertical incisions.
