Aggregation of Deoxyribonucleic Acid and the Helping Effect in Transformation

Deoxyribonucleic acid aggregates in the presence of a component of Neopeptone at low ionic strength and thereby loses its ability to bind to competent bacteria. The reversible and concentration-dependent nature of this aggregation is the basis of the helping effect in transformation.
