Requirement for Calcium in Adhesion of a Fouling Diatom to Glass
An assay for the adhesion of Amphora coffeaeformis (Bacillariophyceae) to glass is described. Ca(2+) and Sr(2+) promoted adhesion, but Ba(2+) and Mn(2+) were ineffective.
