Ammonium Production by Dissimilatory Nitrate Reducers Isolated from Baltic Sea Water, as Indicated by (15)N Study
Bacteria able to perform dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium were isolated from low-oxygen masses in the Baltic Sea. In liquid media enriched with (15)NO(3)(−) and incubated anaerobically, the NH(4)(+)-producing isolates transformed 25 to 72% of the (15)NO(3)(−) to (15)NH(4)(+).
